The horse has long been central to human activity – a partnership through the ages. We have worked together, fought together and travelled together. The horse has had a profound impact on human history.
Providing care, compassion and financial help, to injured jockeys founded in 1964 following the devastating accidents to Tim Brookshaw, and then Paddy Farrell in the 1964 Grand National, the Injured Jockeys Fund has since spent over £17m in helping over 1000 jockeys whose injuries have forced some of them to give up riding.
Our aim is to maintain this ethos with continuing support for our existing beneficiaries and to provide immediate and effective help to all newly injured jockeys in whatever way is appropriate to ensure a reasonable quality of life for them and their families.
On the day we will have a Side Saddle Demonstration, A Racing Simulator, Riding for the Disabled, Gentle Giant Shire horses, where you will be able to meet these gentle giants and learn more about the breed. Coleg Sir Gar will also be with us on the day with a life size horse model that will help teach you the ins and outs of how to put a bridle on as well as doing the bridle challenge. It promises to be fun filled afternoon….
